COURAGE .... by Summer LaRock (age 10) - May 3, 2004
Have you or someone you’ve known ever showed courage? Someone I know showed courage. Her name was Lauren LaRock. She is my sister.
Lauren fought a tumor in her leg. As bad as it hurt she showed courage and walked on her leg. The tumor soon spread cancer. Lauren got cancer on April 16, 2002. Lauren was unable to walk.
When she tried to walk she fell. Even through all the pain she did not give
up.
Lauren always wanted to make people happy. Lauren was brave to go through all
those surgeries. Lauren did all she could do to get healthy.
Lauren had a feeling inside that her life was coming to an end. When Lauren knew her live was coming to an end, she started writing “thank you” cards to people. Lauren was right. On December 5, 2002 her life was now in the hands of God.
Now I would like you to write about a time when you or someone you know showed courage. Here is a poem for families who have lost a family member…
“Never
take a moment for granted
cause it could be the last.
Live your life to it’s fullest
don’t spend it in the past.
Be thankful for all the special times you’ve had
For one day without notice, in the blink of an eye,
Breaking our hearts, tearing at our souls,
you’ll be made very sad.
Our special ones become “angels”
why we may never understand.
That God takes them away
with just a brush of his hand.
That tears of sorrow hurts so deep inside
That the ones you love so much, so dear,
aren’t there by our sides”
